Although his parents loved each other, they had widely differing viewpoints about a variety of things. They divorced when Valentine was only 7 and he was sent back and forth between his parents until he turned 18. When he was growing up both of his parents moved frequently: his father to where he was assigned, and his mother to wherever the mood took her. She never quite outgrew the gypsy life she once led. Once, while with his father who was stationed in Hong Kong, he began tutelage in the art of O-Ken Wa. Rather than returning to his mother, he ran away and was successful at eluding capture for nearly seven years. After that he was kept under a very watchful eye by both his parents. But no matter what they did he kept getting into trouble. By the age of 16 he had been in juvenile hall on a dozen occasions and already had a formidable rap sheet which included breaking and entering, assault, theft, grand theft, and the like. He was then enrolled in a military school. He found that once he stopped opposing his instructors he got along quite well and learned a great deal. After he graduated it seemed only natural to join the military. After a four year tour in the military he returned to Hong Kong and put his skills to good use as a freelance spy and troubleshooter. Through a combination of his excellent training, natural gifts, and strange powers which he himself doesn't quite understand, he has made a decent name for himself in Hong Kong. Valentine's Oriental blood is not very obvious when one looks at him. The only signs are his thick black hair and skin which looks naturally tanned. He keeps his hair cut to shoulder length and usually pulled back in a pony tail to keep it out of his eyes. As a reflection of his familiarity with the night, he almost always wears black clothing. Concealed on his back are a pair of Oriental short swords which run parallel to his spine, hilts down for easy drawing. Because the swords are so narrow they are virtually unnoticable under his heavy leather jacket. He also keeps a Barracuda FN Revolver in a shoulder rig just in case. Valentine drives a relatively beat up motorcycle which, contrary to its looks, is in relatively good condition. Most of his belongings at the moment are kept in his saddlebags since he was evicted from his last apartment.
